    Hadios, Mexico!

A note of gloat to all my Mexican friends:

We beat you again.  This is your national sport.  It's, like, the 19th most popular sport in America.  People that ride third-string bench on girl's field hockey teams start for our national men's soccer team.  It is an afterthought to 99% of Americans.

And you were spanked in front of your home crowd in Chicago.

    NEENER NEENER!

Clue, the Global Warming version: The Sun did it!

Not incredibly well-written or anything, but here is one of the most fascinating articles on the global warming phenomenon I have read in a long time. I have long held that there is something wrong with our fundamental understanding of the climate - it just doesn't quite click to this layman.  This article, however, does 'click.'  It ties the cosmic ray/cloud theory together with variations in the sun cycle, and is well worth reading all the way through.

    Men are Sluts

So the Federal Government came out with a study that demonstrates that the average man, over the course of his lifetime, is significantly more promiscous than the average female.   These are American men and the questions about numbers of partners were specific to females, so don't count any gay sexual experiences in those numbers.

Nobody is stating the obvious:  that given that there are only a few more females than males (percentage-wise), some of those females REALLY get around.  Otherwise the average could not be brought up that high for males...unless they are all with slutty foreigners?  Encounters with prostitutes?

Either way, it seems obvious that either 1) women lie about how many sexual partners they have been with, even when there is no way to detect the lie, or 2)  some women REALLY get around.

    Hamas Gut-Shoots Itself

I've been following the Hamas/Abbas/Palestinian government blow-up with great interest.  At first I was horrified at what looked like a fatal blow to the march towards Palestinian statehood and co-existence (note I did not say peaceful co-existence) with Isreal.  Once Hamas unilaterally declared an Islamic State, however, I re-thought the matter.  I am now tentatively of the opinion that Hamas may have shot themselves in the foot, if not the gut.  What looked like a power-play designed to eliminate all pretenders to the throne may end up setting Hamas back decades in its goal of rule by demagouge/theocratic jackass.  They have succeeded in getting half or more of the Palestinian people to hate them and for the U.S., Isreal, and the E.U. to rally around Abbas' flag.  Whether the people's anger at Hamas for forcing the matter will translate into increased support for Abbas remains to be seen.

    Paul Potts sings Nessun Dorma

This is one of those rare times when you feel that a very special moment has been captured on film.  It's probably more the result of brilliant editing than actual occurrence, but I'll buy into the myth.  I want it to be true.

    Korean Holocaust Museum

This is one of those things that, if you laugh at it, probably means you are a bad person.  It's funnier if you've actually visited a holocaust museum before, since they are among the most depressing and sobering places on earth.  Ahh, Korea!

    Chavez the Hypocrite

Hey, Jackass, if you're such a true socialist, why did it take you so long to give away the quarter mil?  How much more do you still have hoarded away, oh selfish one?  How about disclosing your audited finances?

    Ironiya

I love cartoons.  They convey ideas unlike anything else.  Here is a case in point, a very brave cartoon from the days of the Soviet Union - I think it is great.   Hat tip to Jane for bringing it to my attention.

    Global Warming Part the Infinate

Sorry, but I can't help it.  The controversy fascinates me.

Apparently, man-made global warming is bunk.

Except, unfortunately, said bunk is happening three times faster than anticipated.

I've said it before, I'll say it again:  global warming is undeniable, but our theories are waaaaay off base.  We don't have a clue when it comes to the climate.  We may be contributing more than we think, maybe less, but one thing I am certain of:  our current "certain knowledge" is laughable.
